The
legendary Treasure of San Gennaro is now on view at the Musée Maillol,
the first time this magnificent collection has ever left Italy.
Dedicated to the patron saint of Naples, it consists of jewels, statues
and religious items donated over a 700-year period by popes and kings. Le Trésor de Naples – Les Joyaux de San Gennaro
includes such showstoppers as a bishop’s mitre decorated with more than
3,600 diamonds, rubies and emeralds; an astounding necklace forged from
ornate pieces donated by several European sovereigns; 15 colossal busts
by the greatest Baroque sculptors and goldsmiths; an elaborate
reliquary containing the martyr’s blood; and paintings by Giordano,
Spadaro and others portraying the saint and his miracles. .
